Double Galaxy

In this image the Hubble Space Telescope has captured two galaxies. The bigger one is called NGC 4424, because it’s catalogued in the New General Catalog of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars (NGC). The smaller, brighter galaxy bellow is called LEDA 213994 because it’s catalogued in the more modern and extensive Lyon-Meudon Extragalactic Database (LEDA), but as astronomers can’t resist a good acronym, the smaller galaxy is called Leda as the princess from Greek mythology.
